Ross Horrocks

About

Ross Horrocks was born in Oakland CA, earned a BA in Drawing and Painting from the University of California, Santa Cruz, later a BFA from the same institution, and an MFA from Boston University.
He has painted and taught in California, Boston, the Southeast, and France.
A native of the San Francisco Bay Area, Horrocks was aware of and engulfed by the Mediterranean light of Northern California with its effect on color. The cultural heritage of the California Painterly Realists (Diebenkorn, Bischoff, Weeks, Park, etc. and their debt to Matisse, and Abstract Expressionism), plus trips to France to paint, teach, and view Fauvist and Post-Impressionist work, has greatly influenced the painter. His work is concerned with the color of light, the tactile sensuality of paint, along with the sense of place and people in his subjects.
In Metro Atlanta, Mr. Horrocks has taught Drawing, Painting, and Computer Graphics for Atlanta College of Art, Georgia State University and Kennesaw State, the Atlanta Art Institute, and SCAD. He also freelances as an Art Director, Graphic Designer, and Illustrator creating and producing for interactive media and print. He paints and exhibits in the States and Europe, and lives north of Atlanta with his wife Claudine, 18-year-old son Ian, Basset Wally, Guinea Pigs Luigi, Mario, Yoshi, and Harli, plus the parakeets.
